Good to meet you.

I go by Joseph Bones on the stage, but out here on the web, you can call me Joe. I make music to help make the noise in my life a little quieter, and hopefully it can do the same for you. I call the music I make memoir folk pop — honest stories, organic sounds, & catchy songs. I like to say that my tunes take a lot of living to make. I’m not sure who I stole that from, but thanks for the pearls of wisdom…whoever you are. Whether you’ve known me for a while, or you’re just stopping in for a visit — thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

After an injury ended my life long dream of playing professional soccer, I turned to music. At 16, I taught myself to play guitar and sing, studying John Mayer's hands on slowed down YouTube videos, and singing along with The Avett Brothers until my voice gave out. All my noise eventually turned into music. I started playing cover songs for my family, but I had horrible stage fright. I remember one occasion where I couldn't even sing for my sweet grandmother — the easiest person in the world to impress.

At 18, with not time to play because of university, I was going to give up music for good. Days after I had decided to quit, however, I was offered a job leading music at a small church — me... the guy with no experience, mediocre skill, and stage fright even in front of his own grandma. I was blessed to spend the next 6 years playing music everyday and growing beyond what I ever thought I could be. As it is for all of us, life is messy. From trauma to triumph, from deep sadness to even deeper joy, I learned how to write songs to make the noise in my life a little less noisy. I share them with you in hopes that it might help you understand and overcome the noise in your own life. I believe we were created for a purpose. I hope my music and stories help you see your purpose a little clearer.
